Day 8

even her little sandy buns are cute

The first OFF DAY for Chip since we got here! So, we (I) were (was) super lazy this morning. Chip actually went to the gym. Then we went to the beach with some friends. It was overcast much of the time which was nice. Not so nice for Chip's back. Those bad UVB rays scorched his back. It was the kids first time at the ocean this year. They loved it. It took them a little while to get used to it. But, if they were with Chip they were fine. That was about the extent of our day, except a trip to Wal-Mart for me and then a trip to the After-Hours clinic for Nate & Me. He woke up from his afternoon nap with a fever and I thought he may have an ear infection. I was not really impressed with the care we received there. They were nice and the facility was great. However, Nate still had a 100.3 fever after being on Motrin for an hour. All the PA told me was that he may be in the beginning stages of an upper-respiratory infection and here is your antibiotic scrip. It is just sickening how quickly antibiotics are handed out. I filled it but am going to wait and see how he does through the night. I personally think he is at the beginning of an ear infection. Mom does usually know best. No offense Shana. I was wishing you were there to look at him. I know you would have done a much more thorough job.

I laughed out loud at the pic of Ella's backside. And that's really funny that you gave a shout out to Shana because I just did in one of my posts, too. Glad you got to be a little lazy this morning, but sorry Nate Nate's sick :(

Just prayed for you and Nate. Keep me posted. Love Streed and Ella holding hands. That's a keeper. And, yes, her sandy buns are too cute. Love, Moma

Hey! I am little behind on blog reading, so just got to this! NO offense taken...I understand it can be upsetting not to have an absolute diagnosis to go home with...usually the first day of fever, if combined with a runny nose, pulling at ears, cough, etc. is usually a virus, and we actually encourage combining tylenol and motrin at times when there is a stubborn fever - it IS ok to do that. Just not more often that every 6 hours if you do so. If there are no other associated symptoms, just a high fever...then antibiotics are generally warranted if we see a red tympanic membrane. But if nate was all clear (no source for the fever), most likely it's just a virus, and fever (even high fevers) can last up to 3-4 days..and staying on top of motrin and tylenol is the most important thing you can do, as well as hydration, because fever can dehydrate. if fever lasts longer than 3-4 days, again, antibiotics are generally warranted. so...although the "care" may not have been that thorough, that's probably some of the thoughts going through the PA's mind, along with the fact that he/she might not see Nate again, and wanted to cover just in case. so, i say all that to say, sorry about your experience!! but I hope nate is getting better!! I would have loved to have checked him out for you if I were there!! Love you!
