I surrender...to my laundry

That's it. I have just decided that I must wash a load a day. Why have I been fighting this? It would be so much easier, at the end of each day, to grab 5 peoples dirty towels and clothes and just wash them. Rather than several days a week doing multiple loads and getting behind on folding and putting away. I love being a stay-at-home mom. For some reason though I fight and rebel, both internally and externally, against the duties that come with the benefits of staying home. Starting today, once the next three loads are washed, I am doing ONE A DAY! Any other make-your-life-simpler tips are welcomed.

This may sound silly to people who are not a "anal" as I am. However, one day I timed myself folding a load of towels, then a load of "whites", then a load of darks. I was very surprised to discover that it only takes about 10 minutes per load to fold. The white took a little longer because there are more t-shirts and underwear in that load. Well, now that I know how long it will likely take me I can convince myself to put down what I am doing for 10 minutes or 15 at the most. Luckily for me, my washing and dryer are located in my bedroom closet but you get the idea. Narrow it down to a time and then try to race to beat it. Sometimes this helps. Love you Shelley. Melora

Just wash one more today and catch up slowly doing two tomorrow. Then start the one-load-a-day thing another day when you are caught up. Maybe that is why Ella likes to be naked. Sweet girl just wants to help you out; naked=less laundry. Gran

Have you checked out flylady.com? A lot of people at Grace do it. I do parts of it...but not all. Like the Swish and Shine, that makes life easier. I do one load a day too...at the minimum. But I have cloth diapers so it is a must!

start the morning off with an empty dishwasher!

meal planning. every sunday plan out the weeks meals, go to the store, and vow not to go again that week unless absolutely necessary (think: out of milk). saves time, sanity and money!

If it makes you feel any better, I did 12 loads in 3 days from Saturday to Monday! Now I'm in Mobile glad that I'll only have Aaron's little bit and what we bring back to deal with upon our return! I'm vowing to be a one-a-day girl too! I struggle with that and dishes, despite having a dishwasher! I love my job as a SAHM too, but still struggle with the same things.

Right there with you. Every day is a must for us as well. I've recently committed to never putting clean laundry in a basket. I am determined to fold it right out of the dryer and put it away immediately... or else, it gets ugly fast. Hang in there... you're not surrendering, you are conquering!

First of all, I usually have the perpetual mountain of clean clothes just waiting for me to fold them. My husband suggested that I fold the clothes as they come out of the dryer. I think I shot him a dirty look. Anyway, it just never works that way for me. I usually decide to tackle the mountain and ,of course, feel as if I'm neglecting my children. Kind of a no win situation so it seems. I'm there with you.
The only suggestion I have for cutting down on laundry in the first place is to use towels 2 or 3 times before washing them. It makes sense if you think about it. When you get out of the shower you're clean. I just hang up the towels and let them air dry until the next use. This will probably still not sit well with some people, but it does reduce my amount of laundry.

i have one of those tiny "efficient" machines...i do four loads a day. every day. we do cloth diapers, so that is one load. we play outside a lot. levi spits up all the time...just how it is, i am sure someday i'll miss washing all these tiny little things.

yes, laundry is my least favorite chore! i tried the one-load-a-day idea for a while and then stopped b/c, well, i am basically undisciplined and don't stick with much for long! it is a good idea though! my only tip: pick everything up 30 minutes before your husband comes home. if you do it earlier, the rugrats will drag it back out again anyway and you'll be frustrated! quickly run a swiffer vac around to collect crumbs and straighten the couch pillows. aah, bliss for the hubby!
