the mall

I worked today from 10-3. It is really the greatest shift. It goes by so quickly and you do not miss much of the kids' day. But, being at the mall is challenging. I never go shopping. This is good because I do not know what I am missing. Jill's mother's mentor years ago said, "Do not go the the mall and you will not want." It is so true. Our counter in itself has lots of tempting products. However, it is also right by the jewelry department. I care nothing about jewelry. I think it is pretty but it is not something I need. But, staring at it as I wait for customers makes it so appealing. It brings to life the truth of the verse about fleeing temptation. If you stare at a forbidden object too long it becomes a desire, and then something that occupies your thoughts and eventually something you will pursue, often at all costs, while disreagarding the consequences. So, as I work next Monday thru Friday, I will be faced with the temptation to buy. I pray I will not only fight it, but also that I will see the things as just that, pretty things.

As you well know I am not a shopper either. A couple of weeks ago I had to go the AT&T store for work. Just so happens this store is in the mall. The easiest way to get there was via Dillards. Oh my goodness, right past lengerie, through literally hundreds of handbags and then the pretty cosmetics ladies who practually jumped me. No thank you, I wear only Beautiful. But, yes, the temptations are certainly out there everywhere, not just at the mall. We just have to remove ourselves from them. I mean, it's like me even thinking of looking at Christmas decor. Don't need half of what I have now. Maybe you will be so busy next week you won't have time to look at the jewelry. See you soon! Moma

Shelley....I needed to hear that. We are so dirt poor right now. With the holidays, that has been extremely hard. I have zero Christmas purchased other than what my parents have gotten for the boys. It has made me want to reveal the Santa secret because Kris and I work so hard to give the boys their wants and needs. I don't want them to think some magical man comes on Christmas Eve to deliver a house full of toys. Alot of hard work on Kris and I's behalf make it possible. My moto lately has been "does this matter for eternity". If it doesn't I dont' stress or worry about it, including the holidays. Like a dirty house, piles of laundry, boys running around the house fighting the dog with no clothes on. Those thing just do not matter in light of eternity.

Now to homeschooling. Shelley I love it. I do use Sonlight and I love it. I have realized they are not super stong in grammer which concerned me a little. So I do suppliment with Bob Jones Language, which I cannot say enough wonderful things about. We use Saxon Math. We used Horizons last year and although we liked it, it was learn a concept and review and review. Hamilton got very board with the same thing for days in a row. Saxon Math uses alot of manipulatives and focus's on multiple concepts in a day. There is no way to get board. Let me know if you need anymore info. I love talking about homeschool stuff. Oh we use Children Desiring God for Bible. We are dong their study on Proverbs right now. It is incredible. I know you like Piper too. Good luck.

You know, they say that about working at a restaurant- that you never want to eat the food there because you see it all day. I love that idea from Jill's mom's friend! I will have to remember that one- so true!

thanks for sharing this. i definitely agree, temptation is all around us. praying right now that as you see all of those pretty things this verse will come to mind:

store up for yourself treasures in heaven where moth and rust do not destroy and thieves do not break in and steal. for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
